Chemical Alert Penbotec® and Scholar® MRLs in Export Markets August 22, 2006 Background:  In 2004 and 2005 two post harvest fungicides, Penbotec® (pyrimethanil), produced by Janssen Pharmaceutica, Inc., and Scholar® (fludioxonil), from Syngenta Crop Protection, were introduced for commercial sale to packinghouses. Both of these fungicides must be used under controlled conditions as specified by the Washington State Department of Ecology to remain in compliance with the Fresh Fruit Packing General Permit. Situation:  Packinghouses should be aware that although these products are registered for use in Washington, maximum residue levels (MRLs) for these active ingredients may not have been established in a particular export market.
