I. CHEMICAL MAXIMUM RESIDUE LEVELS (MRLS)

Please click on the above link for a list of chemical MRLs.

II. CHEMICALS AND ADDITIVE INFORMATION

    A. Chemical residue standards:

Thailand has its own limited MRL standards for apples, pears and/or cherries.  If a chemical does not have an established MRL, Thailand will accept Codex.

    B. Monitoring chemical residues:

Thailand had announced that effective July 1, 2009 all imported fruit shipments will be required to show that they are safe from excessive residues of organophosphates, carbamates, organochlorines and pyrethroids.  However, the U.S. Embassy has reported that as of June 29, 2009 the Thai government informed all fresh vegetable and fruit importers that the implementation of proposed new import pesticide screening procedures would be postponed "until all the related sectors are ready.  The new implementation date will be notified later".  The NHC will continue to monitor the progress of this proposed regulation.

As a result of the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area, Thailand and China have reduced their respective import duties on fresh fruits and vegetables to zero.

Thailand and Australia negotiated a free trade agreement (FTA) in October 2003.  Under this FTA, Thailand provided Australian apples and pears duty-free access.
